Inflection Animation
https://youtu.be/UT-hMP5iri8I spent a year working on this piece. It started when my classmate Justin Singer wanted to write a personal story. Then eventually he wanted a title card animation for it, which is where I came in.
A fellow classmate, Lexie Smith was also interested in VFX. While I started setting up the materials, she built the digital sets in Unreal Engine. After I received those files, it was my job to animate the lines and camera.
It took experimentation across multiple ideas, before we decided on the style of lines and text we have now. At first, Just said he wanted the camera work to be like the Severance TV show intro. I tried some following the smooth movement of the camera, but we decided the straight cuts worked better for this shot.
Justin wanted these lines because the title is Inflection, which is about lines turning.
There was also camera work and lighting I had to figure out. I hadn’t been in full control of both those things as a DP for someone else’s project. One thing this many shots had was a chance to learn some new features in Blender. This included the scenes, where each scene could be a new shot, with linked objects, allowing me the freedom to set up lights wherever.
